Medium blue wool New York militia officer's single-breasted coat; 1 1/2" closed black stand-up collar (one hook and eye); black shoulder loops which button at the collar end, with "K / 7" at the shoulder end; 9 buttons down the front, cast with an eagle with a shield in its beak, flying above a banner reading "N.Y.S.A." and surrounded with "EXCELSIOR / NATIONAL GUARD"; closed sleeves with false black chevron-shaped cuffs; 3 panels on the back; coat lined with black silk, sleeves lined with white silk with blue and brown pin stripes, diagonal slit pockets inside each breast.
