This wafer iron was made for the White House Kitchen in 1820. Only approximately 20 existed and they provided the Presidents with patriotic ice cream wafers. This wafer iron was bought by a dealer from Thomas Boardman of the Boardman family of Hartford, Conn. Boardman used an eagle touchmark similar to the Great Seal depicted on this wafer iron.
