Brass waist belt plate; corner-cut rectangular plate with iron bar and brass hook soldered to back, and stamped shell and flame design on front.

The shell and flame design on this plate was the exclusive insignia of the U.S. Ordnance Department from 1851 until after the Civil War, but according to accession records, this plate was worn by the donor's father while serving in Hawkin's Zouaves during the war.
