Mark: stamped on the base: "TIFFANY & Co/ 5766 MAKERS 2000/ STERLING SILVER/ 925-1000/ T" Inscription: engraved at center: "Presented/ to/ Charles W. dayton,/ may 24th.., 1987,/ by the officers and employees of the/ New York Post Office in token of their/ love and esteem, and of his courtesy, efficency,/ justice and impartiality as Postmaster at/ New York, to which office he was appointed/ by President Cleveland June 5th.., 1893,/ and from which he resigned/ May 22d.., 1897." in script Mark: Under inscription is also incuse stamp relating to salver size "13 IN." Mark: incised scratch marks also appear to right and left of hallmarks: "39/25" and "91" Description: First scratch mark may be scratch weight
