Description
Cast silver birthday spoon in the "Wave Edge" pattern with a slightly upturned handle with a foliate wave border and shell decoration; handle engraved, "Adelaide./ 1890" in script; pointed oval bowl with a shell drop; makers' marks stamped on the underside of the handle.

This spoon belonged to the donor.
The "Wave Edge" pattern was designed by Charles T. Grosjean (active 1868-1888) and patented on July 15, 1884, it was introduced the same year. The pattern was discontinued in 1913 and then reintroduced on August 17, 1956 whereupon it was discontinued again a shortwhile after. In 1987 the pattern was again reintroduced this time in conjunction with the 150 year anniversary of Tiffany & Co..
