The subject was the son of Benjamin S. Judah of New York, a merchant who was ruined by the War of 1812. He was the author of three plays, "The Mountain Torrent" (1820), "The Rose of Arragon" (1822), and "A Tale of Lexington" (1823), which was unsuccessfully produced at the Park Theatre, New York. He also wrote dramatic poems and satires; one of the latter, "Gotham and the Gothamites" (1823), caused his imprisonment for libel.
