Wrought and cast silver presentation tray; oval tray with raised sides and an applied, cast acanthus and bead band around the rim; two cast strap handles with scroll joints and acnthus and bead decoration; center of the tray engraved with two geometric and foliate scroll bands around the inscription, "Mary A. Benedict/ 1862" in gothic script; makers' marks stamped on the base.

Inscriptions: engraved in center: "Mary A. Benedict/ 1862." Name is engraved in Old English characters and date is in block characters. Surrounding name is three elaborate rows of engraved patterns consisting (from inside to outside rim) of medallions with interior bows and scrolls, chain links, and alternating shells or modified fleur de lis reserves against floral and strap work background. Hallmark: stamped on base: "BALL, BLACK &CO" in rectangular semi-circular surround stamped in relief on reverse of rim below right handle. Below hallmark is material content mark incuse "950/1000", and to left is maker's mark incuse "E.G & B".
