Description
Honey amber machine-made glass figured bottle with flat, sloping collar, short tapered neck, body shaped like an elephant with medallion with head of Richard Nixon in profile on obverse and medallion with head of Spiro Agnew in profile on reverse, inscription "NIXON '68 FOR PRESIDENT" on obverse, "AGNEW '68 FOR VICE PRESIDENT" on reverse, and additional inscriptions on edge and underside of oblong base.

Gallery Label
This campaign bottle was acquired by J. William Middendorf II, a Wall Street businessman and enthusiastic Republican. He served as Treasurer of the Republican National Committee in the late 1960s and was involved with the 1968 campaign of Nixon and Agnew. The bottle was given to the curator of his private collection, Wendy Shadwell, who later donated the bottle to the Historical Society while she was serving as NYHS curator of prints.
