Overall: 1 x 7 3/4 in. ( 2.5 x 19.7 cm )
Porcelain fruit plate with wide band of dark coral bounded by gold banding; central oval medallion with a swimming white swan, foliage behind.
Gift of Mr. William Banks
This plate is part of a service made for Mary Cornell Pell as a gift from her parents when she married Robert MacComb in 1806. The Pell family, descendants of John Pell of Pelham, were prominent merchants in New York City after the Revolution. The white swan depicted in the plate's central medallion is a version of the Pell arms, which have a pelican in both the crest and the shield.
