This black wood framed white cotton flour sack was sent to Belgium for food relief during World War I and was sent back with embroidery thanking U.S. citizens. Below the words "James River Falls", in light blue, a scene of a river with forested banks flowing over rocks is stitched in green, blue and brown yarns over the original flour bag print. At the top, embroidered free hand, are the words "Merci Aux Etats Unis" flanked by Belgian and American flags. At the bottom a black bordered gold banner reads "Roller Process" above the words in light blue with a red border "The Dunlop Mills, Richmond Va." The whole scene is bordered with red and gold diamond design and the original blue printing from the flour company is still visible at the bottom "When Packed 48 Lbs. Net/ James River Falls".
