Green is the first public advocate for New York City. Before becoming public advocate, Green served as New York City's Consumer Affairs Commissioner for three years, was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in 1986, and worked with Ralph Nader in Washington for 10 years. He is the author or co-author of 15 books on government, business, and law, including the million-copy best-seller Who Runs Congress and his most recent publication, The Consumer Bible .
