Description
Gilt bronze, iron chalice. Naturalistic hand cup conical bowl; upright of two Twin Tower forms with feet of trees and roots over irregularly shaped sheet iron base.

Gallery Label
Conceived and designed by college student Jessica Stammen while volunteering at St. Paul's Chapel in the months after the September 11th terrorist attacks, this chalice incorporates structural steel recovered from the former World Trade Center site. The cup of the chalice was cast from Stammen's own cupped hands; the stem represents the Twin Towers; and the tree roots gripping the steel symbolize the century old sycamore tree in St. Paul's churchyard hit by debris from the falling North Tower.
