Inscribed: "I have wished the good opinion of the world but I defy the/most malignant of my enemies to show that I have at-/tempted to gain it by any love or groveling acts by any/man or unworthy sacrifice by the violation of any of/the alligation of honor or by a breach of any of the duties/which I owed to my country."
