Bronze struck medal with obverse showing uniformed bust of Eleazer Ripley facing right with legend: "BRIG. GENERAL ELEAZER W. RIPLEY." Reverse shows standing female allegorical figure of Victory, holding standards inscribed "ERIE," "CHIPPEWA," and "NIAGARA", dictating to the muse of History seated at right; legend: "RESOLUTION OF CONGRESS NOVEMBER 3. 1814."; inscription below exergual line: "BATTLES OF CHIPPEWA./JULY 6. 1814./NIAGARA.JULY 25.1814./ERIE. SEP. 17.1814."

This medal is referred to as "muling" or "hybrid" because it was made with two dies that originally were not intended to be used together. This "hybridization" of dies was practiced by the U.S. Mint in the period from 1880 to 1890.
