Description
Gilt bronze struck medal with obverse depicting two shields, one of them containing state symbols of the United States, with laurel branches, ears of wheat
and rays of rising sun in background, intertwined with scroll inscribed: "27 DE JULHO/1906." Reverse contains inscription at center surrounded by laurel wreath: "HOMENAGEM/A/ELIHU ROOT/1823-1906"; legend: "AMERICA/AOS AMERICANOS."

Elihu Root (1845-1937) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1912. He served as Secretary of War under McKinley and Roosevelt (1899-1903) and as Secretary of State under Roosevelt (1905-1909). From 1909- 1915 he was a Republican Senator from New York.
