Description
Silver struck medal with obverse showing five seated female allegorical figures with floral garlands with classical pediment at center surmounted by eagle and inscribed: "NEW YORK/JANUARY 1/MDCCCXCVIII"; distant landscapes at either side in background; inscription in exergue: "QUEENS RICHMOND/BROOKLYN THE BRONX/MANHATTAN"; seal of the American Numismatic Society at lower center; legend around border: "COMMEMORATING THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE MUNICIPALITIES ABOUT THE PORT OF NEW YORK." Reverse contains four scenes separated by windmill arms depicting colonial and revolutionary events, each accompanied by their date as legend : "MAY 4 1626/SEPT. 2 1609/ SEPT. 8 1664/JULY 9 1776." Black and dark blue square leather fitted case with blue silk satin and green silk velvet lining.
