This embroidered panel was likely made for Frank DeCaro, an Italian immigrant of New York who owned a successful tailoring establishment from 1890 to his death in 1955. The panel may have been produced by one of DeCaro's own workers, and probably hung in his Brooklyn home. DeCaro was an active member of the Italian-American community, a founding member of the Christopher Columbus Society and the Fraterna Society as well as an advocator for establishing Columbus Day as a holiday.
