Wood piece carved into shape of book, lacquered and with gold painted detail and inscriptions; front: "A piece of the/ Str. Merrimack"; back: "Presented to the/ Hon. Edward Everett of Mass./ by the Master laborer of Wash'n/ Navy Yard. Feb. 10th 1863".
