Stoneware, cobalt oxide
Overall: 6 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 1 3/4 in. ( 16.5 x 14 x 4.4 cm )
Salt-glazed stoneware ring bottle decorated with incised and cobalt hearts and the initials "MS" on one side and incised and cobalt fish and birds on the reverse.
Purchased from Elie Nadelman
inscribed: by hand: "M S"
Ring bottles, a Germanic form identified with farm work, were seldom produced by stoneware potters and were probably made only as presentation pieces. The initials are probably those of the buyer who requested the potter to include them in the decoration.
