In 1913, the Armory Show presented a dramatic departure from neo-classical realism and brought avant-garde modernists like Picasso and Duchamp into the forefront of American thinking. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, the opening performance of Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring in Paris—with its unconventional music and choreography— resulted in a near-riot in the audience. Three experts discuss a time of tremendous upheaval and transition that sent shockwaves through the Old and New World alike.
