George F. Kennan was an eminent diplomat whose writings were key to establishing the containment strategy that defined U.S. policy toward the Soviet Union for 40 years.  In a new biography, George F. Kennan: An American Life, historian John Lewis Gaddis draws from exclusive access to Kennan’s archives and extensive interviews with Kennan himself over 30 years. Join us for a special talk with Professor Gaddis on this pivotal Cold War strategist.

Speakers Bio

John Lewis Gaddis is Robert A. Lovett Professor of History of Yale University. He is the author of numerous books, including The Cold War: A New History and, most recently, George F. Kennan: An American Life.
