Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans

Madeline at the White House by John Bemelmans Marciano

To celebrate our special exhibition Madeline in New York: The Art of Ludwig Bemelmans, this Sunday we’ll be reading two Madeline books! We’ll be starting with Ludwig Bemelmans’ very first book featuring twelve little girls in two straight lines where the smallest one was Madeline.

Although born in Austria-Hungary and raised in Germany, Bemelmans spent the majority of his life in the United States and fell in love with his adopted country. After his death, the tradition of Bemelmans’ beloved Madeline series was continued by his grandson, John Bemelmans Marciano.

In our second book of the day Madeline and the girls are coming to America! Join us to see what mischief they get up to at the White House!

Presented with our promotional partner, the German American Steuben Parade, which is held this year on September 20th.

From the seventeenth century to the twenty-first, through fiction and through fact, hear tales of NYC and the people who made it great.

Support for the Macy's Sunday Story Hour provided by the Macy's Foundation.
