Description: 

Leaded glass and bronze "Poppy" table lampshade; 17" diameter cone-shaped shade depicted orange poppies in a motif repeated three times around the shade; poppy petals rendered in orange glass mottled with yellow, purple flower centers, greenish buds; background bluish-green with gray mottling. Metal filigree on leaves applied to underside of leaves and to surface of seed pods. Upper and lower apron rows are rippled orange, with a row of green between. Gilt bronze table lamp base with squared stem and circular platform. Shown on reticulated bronze base with blown green glass (N84.94.2), with cap (N84.66.3).

Poppy shades, like the Dragonfly models, feature a similar system of pierced metal filigree in the blossoms and leaves of the poppy flowers. But while the Dragonfly shade always has the filigree on the outside, the Poppy shades show alternative treatments: the filigree could be placed either in front of or behind the glass (as here), each arrangement giving a slightly different effect.

Bronze table lamp base finished in gold doré; squared central section, each side depicting a stylized iris in low relief; almost-flat platform composed of four half-round extensions. Leaded glass and bronze "Arrowhead" shade; 20" diameter cone-shaped shade with repeated design of yellowish-green arrowheads; below and between are small white flowers with yellow center; single row of light blue glass at aperture and single row of greenish striated glass at bottom of apron. Displayed with "Cattail Pond Lily" base (N84.57.2) with stem covered with pointed spears resembling marsh grass and platform composed of round water-lily leaves, and cap (N84.57.3).

Gallery Label: 
Made up of slender, pointed spears of marsh grass and a platform of waterlilies, this table lamp base works particularly well with the shade. It was referred to as "Cat-Tail, Pond Lily base" and priced at $115 in the 1906 Tiffany Studios price list. Both shade and base were discontinued by 1910.
