Presidents Day: Cocoa with the Founders
Monday, February 18th, 2019 | 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free with Museum Admission
All Ages

What drink was as important to the American colonies as coffee and tea? Why, cocoa, of course! At this cozy and tasty event, learn about colonial hot chocolate and with founding era chocolate enthusiasts President George Washington, portrayed by Living Historian Michael Grillo, first First Lady Martha Washington, portrayed by Sandy Winters of History at Play, and Ben Franklin, portrayed by Living Historian Jack Sherry.  Also learn about Hercules, an enslaved chef at Mount Vernon, and Hercules’s wife, interpreted by New-York Historical Society Living Historians.

In between sips of cocoa, visit hands-on stations to learn about chocolate’s journey to the American colonies, its role in the American Revolution, and its importance to the new nation. Sample chocolate ingredients and learn about chocolate-making, too!

This event is sponsored by Mars Wrigley Confectionery and AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate.
