Reading into History Family Book Club: 'Sweetgrass Basket'
Sunday, November 24th, 2019 | 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Recommended for ages 9–12
Free with Museum Admission

Meet author Marlene Carvell and explore her novel Sweetgrass Basket, a powerful story about two Native American sisters who are sent to an off-reservation school. New-York Historical educators discuss how the girls find a way to preserve their family memories and cultural identity in the face of intimidation and bigotry.

About the Reading into History Family Book Club
Every month families read a historical fiction or nonfiction book together at home and then attend the Book Club event, where they share reactions to the book, see cool museum artifacts and documents related to the story, and meet other history detectives and special guests! Past special guests have included authors Walter Dean Myers, Avi, Laurie Halse Anderson, and Jewell Parker Rhodes, plus museum curators, historians, and other experts.
