This cigarette case was purchased at Cartier, New York in 1972 by Peter Berke, an employee of the firm. Like many luxury objects sold by the retailer, the foreign-made cigarette case was intended for American consumers. This style of case, which held a disposable cigarette package, was popular during the 1960s and '70s.
