The Columbian Exposition of 1893 in Chicago spawned the production of a number of canes that were sold as souvenirs. The fair celebrated the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's landing in the Americas and was noted for its grand architecture that influenced building designs of the following decades. The handle of the cane is a pewter bust of Columbus.
