According to the donor the child represented in this portrait is Eunice Kinney Shumway (1860-1862), whose death date is sometimes given as June 1860 at the age of one month. It may, however, be Augusta Shumway (1862-1864). Both were daughters of Horatio Gates Shumway and Augusta Mary (Johnston) Shumway. The miniature was a gift to the Society from the subject's nephew.
Due to ongoing research, information about this object is subject to change.
