George Harvey (1800-78) came to the United States from England when he was about twenty years old and worked in Ohio and Michigan before settling in Brooklyn as an artist in 1828. He then worked in Boston for a few years and after a brief visit to his native England established himself near Hastings-on-Hudson. Many of his watercolor landscapes from the 1830s and 40s were acquired by the Society in 1948. Amy Eleanor Harvey was his sister.
