The couple at the center of this family group is Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Stuyvesant. Their younger son, Augustus Van Horne Stuyvesant, is pictured in the foreground with his dog. The figure at the far left is Robert Reade Stuyvesant (1837-1906), the couple's older son. Except for Mr. Stuyvesant, they are dressed in exotic costumes as if prepared to attend a fancy dress ball.
