The subject was the father of Cornelius Harsen and the grandfather of Dr. Jacob Harsen. His farm was west of Tenth Avenue, between 70th and 71st streets in New York. The portrait is reproduced in Hopper Striker Mott, "The New York of Yesterday" (1908); the homestead in also illustrated.
