Description 
Cast and wrought silver plated kettle-on-stand; squat, bulbous, ovoid body with curved sides tapering toward the rim and the flat base; circular reserves on each side of the body engraved with the Verplanck family crest and motto, a leaping stag on fess over a banner inscribed, "PIETAS ET JUSTIA" in roman letters, all in an oval surrounded by a garland of bright-cut flowers; vertically applied, bright-cut band of flowers applied around the rim; three part bail handle applied on either side of the rim with hair-paw joints, two strap handle supports with bright-cut floral designs riveted to a turned wooden insulator; cast, curved spout joined to the lower body; oval, domed lid surmounted by a ball finial; oval ring stand with four double curved legs and four ball feet; oval stretcher ring applied to the lower legs; four straight stretchers applied to the centers of the legs with a burner ring in between; no maker's marks.
