The subject was the daughter of Alexander Van Rensselaer (1814-78) and his second wife, Louisa (Barnewell) Van Rensselaer. She married the Rev. James Le Baron Johnson, assistant rector of Grace Church and chaplain of the New York Fire Department, on April 26, 1899. They separated shortly thereafter.
