This miniature is identified only as Miss Daisy Post, the nickname by which Margaret Louise Post, the daughter of William and Rosalie D. (Anthony) Post, was known to her friends and relatives throughout her life. In 1900 she was married to James H. Van Alen, onetime U.S. ambassador to Italy. The Van Alens made their home in New York and Newport. Mr. Van Alen died in 1927 and in 1948 Mrs. Van Alen married Louis S. Bruguière, an art connoisseur of San Francisco and Newport.
