Mary Ledyard Forman was the only child of Colonel Jonathan Forman and Mary (Ledyard) Forman of Cazenovia, New York. She married Henry Seymour (1780-1837) on January 1, 1807. Seymour served in both houses of the state legislature, was a commissioner of the Erie Canal, mayor of Utica, and president of the Farmers' Loan and Trust Co. of New York. William Dunlap painted Mrs. Seymour's portrait in 1823, and Brown's copy is based on Dunlap's original.
