Jeanne (called Jane) D. la Forgue was born in Libourne, France, and was married to Laurent Salles, a native of Pezenas, France, about 1805. Her husband, a wealthy dry goods merchant, was active in New York from 1807 until his death in late 1832 or early 1833. Mrs. Salles later became the wife of A. Morin. This miniature portrait of her was a gift to the Society from her great-grandson.
