Sarah Morris Fish was the eldest daughter of Hamilton Fish. In 1860 she was married to Sidney Webster, a lawyer who had served as private secretary to President Franklin Pierce (1853-57); that same year her husband moved his law practice from Boston to New York. Mr. and Mrs. Webster were socially prominent in New York and Newport, R.I.
Mrs. Webster is dressed as Catherine of Aragon for the Bradley Martin costume ball of 1897. Her costume is modeled closely on a portrait of Henry VIII's first wife, held by the National Portrait Gallery in London.
