Description: 
Salt-glazed stoneware ovoid pot with rolled "ear" handles; interior glazed with Albany slip. Marked 1" below rim with large lettering, brushed with cobalt.
Gallery Label: 
The enterprising potter Paul Cushman (1767-1833) was Albany's leading stoneware manufacturer during the early 19th century. Surviving Cushman pots are sometimes creatively decorated and marked. This example has an unusually large and bold maker's mark which partially covers the handles.
