Rectangular wooden writing desk with domed, hinged top, with mottled brown and black rosewood (palissandre) veneer and decoration consisting of strips of brass across each end on lid and bottom, meeting at edge of lid, brass plaque at center of lid with engraved initials, brass mounts along edges, and escutcheon, all studded with nail heads; panel covered in blue leather folds out from inside of lid, also lined in blue leather; inside desk, white marble surface covered with gilded frame with engraved decoration, which opens to stand upright, with portfolio (with dividers) covered in blue leather on other side facing inside of desk, also covered in blue leather; portfolio holds blotting book covered in blue leather; narrow box covered with blue leather and divided into three compartments, with inset tray, set into niches at either side of desk, with two colorless glass ink bottles with brass caps; at bottom of desk, rectangular pad with loops for writing utensils, holding ivory ruler, ivory and steel penknife, brass and steel paper knife, brass scabbard, and ivory pen holder with brass shaft; desk also contains round chamois cloths embroidered with yellow yarn.
