Description 
Silver struck uniface medal with obverse depicting Yale University coat of arms in the form of a shield bearing an open book with Hebrew text, all within circular panel at center; legend: ":FOR.SERVICE.TO.YALE:/LUX.ET.VERITAS." Reverse is engraved: "Irving/Sands Olds/1956." Medal is inset into square dark blue leather fitted case with cream ribbed silk and dark blue silk velvet interior.

A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Irving Olds graduated from Yale and Harvard Law School, and was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1910. He joined the New York law firm of White and Case in 1911, and was elected to the board of directors of United States Steel in 1936. He became chairman of the board four years later, and held that office until his death. Olds was a director of numerous and varied institutions, including the Cooper Union museum and The New-York Historical Society.
