We are delighted to announce Alexander Mikaberidze, author of The Napoleonic Wars (Oxford Press), as the winner of the 2020 Gilder Lehrman Prize for Military History at the New-York Historical Society. Jointly administered by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and the New-York Historical Society, this award seeks to engage public discourse in wartime studies, international relations, and diplomacy. Andrew Roberts (moderator), chair of the 2020 judging committee for the Gilder Lehrman Prize for Military History at the New-York Historical Society, is Distinguished Lehrman Fellow at New-York Historical Society.

In an ambitious and far-ranging work, Alexander Mikaberidze examines France’s struggle for dominance during the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars not only on the plains of Europe, but also in other regions, including the Americas, West and South Africa, the Ottoman Empire, and beyond. In a conversation with Andrew Roberts, chair of the 2020 Judging Committee for the Prize, Dr. Mikaberidze discusses how these major political-military events shaped global affairs for generations to come. Alexander Mikaberidze, professor of history and the Ruth Herring Noel Endowed Chair at Louisiana State University-Shreveport, is an award winning author of several books on Napoleonic history. Andrew Roberts (moderator) is Distinguished Lehrman Fellow at the New-York Historical Society.
